Let me explain.
I divide all money into two categories.
Rented Money
Your salary, commissions, bonuses.
Anything that stops when you stop working.
You don’t own it. Your employer does.
If your job disappears tomorrow — so does that income.
Owned Money
Your savings, investments, assets.
Money that is yours.
That compounds.
That works while you sleep.
That can never be taken away.
The entire game of your 20s and 30s?
Take as much rented money as possible and convert it into owned money.
Every paycheck, ask yourself:
How much of this is going into MY bucket vs. my employer’s rental agreement?
I was disciplined about this when I was younger. Not perfect — but disciplined.
And today I live on the dividends and interest from my owned money. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want. Not because I got lucky. Because I treated every paycheck like a transfer opportunity.
